Walnut Creek public schools belong to three districts, Acalanes Union High School District, Mt. Diablo Unified School District and Walnut Creek Elementary School District.

As much as there is to do to improve the state of public education in California and the United States these days, there are some bright spots. And one of those bright spots include schools serving Walnut Creek K-12 students.

The Academic Performance Index (API), what is effectively a report card for individual California public schools, just came out.

And, all Walnut Creek schools, governed by the three different school districts, received grades that would earn them "excellent" ratings. That is, these schools made the target goal of 800 on the API.  The API is a numeric index that ranges from a low of 200 to a high of 1000, with a statewide target of 800.

The only exception, at a district-wide level is Mt. Diablo Unified, which earned a score of 784. However, individual Walnut Creek schools within Mt. Diablo Unified, posted scores of 800 or above.  Most were in the high 800 to low 900 range...
